Harrogate Convention Centre has eight exhibition halls providing a total of 16,500 sq m of exhibition space, plus extra meeting and breakout rooms, making it the second largest English venue outside of London, and one of the country’s leading multi-use venues.
Harrogate Convention Centre, Yorkshire
Harrogate Convention Centre (HCC) in Yorkshire can trace
back over 180 years of providing exhibition space on the same site. The original Spa Rooms built in 1832 evolved
into the Royal Hall in 1903, and the first purpose-built exhibition halls were
added in the 1950s. The conference
auditorium was opened in 1982 with seating of around 2000.
Being located close to main north-south links, access by all methods of transport are excellent.
By road, the site entrance is off the A59 Skipton Road, approximately two miles from Junction 47 of the A1(M). The A1 provides a direct route from the south, either via the M1 from the south east, or the M5, M6 and M62 from the South West. From the North and Scotland, the best route is via the M6 and M65. There is a small car park on site with 158 spaces, plus are numerous car parks around the centre of Harrogate site, totalling 1200 spaces, all of which are around ten minutes’ walk from the venue. The daily rate for using these car parks is normally around £15, but some exhibitions provide free parking for a limited number of exhibitors included in their stand price.
By rail, the Harrogate is linked to the east coast mainline at Leeds by hourly connecting services. There are regular direct services to Leeds from London Kings Cross, plus additional services from Liverpool Lime Street, Newcastle, Sheffield and Manchester Victoria.
By Air, the closest airport is Leeds-Bradford, and there is a direct bus service from there into the centre of Harrogate. There are also links to Manchester International Airport via Leeds train station.
By Bus, there are daily National Express coach services to Harrogate. Regular local bus services operate to the HCC from the train and coach stations.
There are two national chain hotels on the HCC site, both of which are physically connected to the Exhibition Halls. In addition, there are numerous hotels within 15 minutes’ walk of the venue.
There are the usual fast food, snack and beverage facilities, plus seating areas available throughout the venue, but nothing much beyond that. However, Harrogate itself is a busy spa resort, so there are plenty of restaurants and bars within a few minutes’ walk, offering everything from local delicacies like fish & chips to 5-star fine dining.
For set-up and breakdown days, there is very limited space to unload at the HCC so the venue operates a holding centre about five minutes from the venue in Dragon Road. All stand holders must first report to the holding centre where they will be issued with a vehicle pass and when there is an available space at the halls to unload they will be directed to the halls by a traffic marshal. When unloading at the exhibition halls, all exhibitors must ensure that their vehicles display the vehicle pass and that vehicles are removed immediately after unloading.
